Where Should Baby Sleep?

Where Should Baby Sleep?

There are many options when it comes to deciding where baby should sleep.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. You know what works best for you and your baby, and what you are most comfortable with.

Many moms find that co-sleepers work well for them. It allows for you to feed baby quickly and easily when baby wakes at night and you don’t have to get up completely to go to baby’s room. Many of the newer co-sleepers on the market have separators that keep baby safe while not feeding.

Using a separate bassinet in your bedroom is another option that works well for many breastfeeding moms. This allows you to keep baby in a separate sleeping area, but they are still close at hand for nighttime feeds. You are able to easily hear baby when they rouse at night and you can feed and put them back in the bassinet with minimal disruption.

If having baby in their nursery and crib works best for you, we recommend investing in a baby monitor. This will allow you to hear baby when she wakes for her nighttime feeds. Having a comfortable chair in the nursery for feeding is also good so that you can rest while baby feeds.

No matter what option you choose, be sure to pay attention to baby’s nighttime feeding cues. Feeding frequently even through the night is important for establishing and maintaining your breastmilk supply, as well as to aid in baby’s growth and development. These nighttime feeds can be particularly sweet as it can often feel like you and your baby are the only people in the world, and the connection between you is amazing.
