Here are some common questions you might have when trying to figure out how to get a breast pump through insurance.
Who sends me my breast pump?
Often, your insurance company will use a durable medical equipment provider (DME) to fulfill your breast pump benefit. You can contact your insurance provider for a list of DMEs that work with your plan.
We have an insurance locator to help you find a DME where you can get your insurance covered Lansinoh breast pump in 3 easy steps!
- Step 1: Select your state
- Step 2: Select your insurance provider
- Step 3: Hit the search button and see your results in seconds!
When can I get my insurance covered breast pump?
The great news is that you can go through the process of providing all your information to a DME for a breast pump as soon as you find out you’re pregnant! Some insurance plans do have eligibility windows that state when a pump can be shipped out. This ranges from three months before your due date up to the day your child is born. If your insurance has an eligibility window, the DME will keep all your breast pump order in queue and ship it out as soon as that window hits.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes. Almost all insurance plans will require you to provide a prescription from your OBGYN. You can ask your doctor to give you a prescription at one of your checkups, or there are even some DMEs that will work directly with your doctor’s office to get the documentation needed for your insurance to provide you with a pump.
Will my pump be free?
Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and plan, but almost all moms can get a double electric breast pump like the our Smartpump or SignaturePro for free!
At Lansinoh, we're working hard to help moms make the most of the benefit, — especially because we know that breastfed babies get sick less frequently, and breastfeeding also offers mom protection from certain diseases too.
With all the preparations you have for a new baby on your list getting a breast pump is an easy one to check off.
