A: Signs your diaphragm needs replacing includes visible cracks, tears, or stretching, or performance issues like loss of elasticity or reduced suction. A worn-out diaphragm could impact milk output.
A: Diaphragms should typically be replaced every 2-3 months whether you are an exclusive pumper or occasional pumper. Read our blog to learn more about how often to replace your other breast pump parts and why.
A: Gently wash the replacement diaphragm by hand in hot, soapy water and rinse under hot running water. Do not use excessive force and do not clean with a bottle or nipple brush. Air dry on a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not use chemical solvents or abrasives.
To disinfect, fill a pot with water and make sure the diaphragm has enough room to be submerged. Bring it to a boil and put the diaphragm in for 5 minutes. Carefully retrieve the diaphragm with a clean slotted spoon or clean tongs. Do not microwave the diaphragm or put it in the dishwasher.
Ensure that the diaphragm is completely dry before assembly and use. Partially dried parts may affect operation of the pump.
